The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken disciplinary action against Nepal’s former captain Rohit Paudel and two players from the United Arab Emirates following a tense encounter during the ACC Men’s Premier Cup final in Kuala Lumpur. The governing body found the players in violation of the ICC Code of Conduct after a heated exchange took place on the field during the high-stakes championship match.
Alongside Paudel, UAE cricketers Adib Usmani and Khuzaima Tanveer were identified for their involvement in the incident. The match officials reported that the players engaged in behavior that fell below the expected standards of international sportsmanship. Specifically, the confrontation involved verbal altercations that breached Level 1 of the ICC’s conduct guidelines, leading to formal reprimands for all parties involved.
In addition to the official warnings, the ICC has also slapped the players with demerit points on their disciplinary records. These points serve as a serious caution, as accumulating further points within a specific timeframe could result in mandatory match suspensions. While the tournament showcased exceptional talent from both nations, this ruling highlights the ICC’s commitment to maintaining discipline and respect on the cricket pitch, ensuring that competitive intensity does not overshadow the spirit of the game.
