In a somber development at the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project, rescue teams have recovered the remains of 18 workers who went missing following a devastating flood on the Bhote Kosi. The bodies were located deep within the project’s tunnel system, where the sudden surge of water had trapped personnel during the disaster.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashok Thapa, head of the Rasuwa District Police Office, reported that the recovery took place after intensive search efforts. The victims were discovered approximately 100 meters inside Audit-3 at Daldung Khola, a location situated about five and a half kilometers north of Mailung. This specific section is part of the extensive 9.8-kilometer tunnel network being constructed for the power plant.
Harka Tamang, a social expert for the hydropower project, confirmed that the bodies were retrieved during the ongoing search and rescue mission. The incident has cast a shadow over the construction site as authorities work to identify the deceased and assess the total impact of the flooding. The recovery mission continues to navigate the difficult terrain and damaged infrastructure to ensure all missing persons are accounted for.
