Following the devastating floods in the Bhote Koshi River on August 26, stakeholders are emphasizing the need for a more structured approach to reconstruction in Rasuwa. Rather than rebuilding individual homes in high-risk areas, experts are calling for the development of integrated housing settlements to ensure the long-term safety and well-being of the affected families.

The Nepal Land and Housing Developers’ Association (NLHDA) recently highlighted that planned, collective housing is the most viable path forward. By grouping residences together, the government and supporting agencies can more efficiently provide essential services such as electricity, clean water, and proper sanitation. This approach also allows for better land-use management in a region prone to natural disasters.

Advocates for this model argue that integrated settlements foster a stronger sense of community while making it easier to implement modern engineering standards. As the recovery process begins, prioritizing these organized housing projects is seen as a critical step in building resilience against future environmental challenges in the Rasuwa district. The focus remains on transforming a period of crisis into an opportunity for sustainable urban planning.
