The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police has taken significant action against corruption in sports by arresting two high-ranking officials from the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). The individuals in custody include ANFA Treasurer Rabindra Joshi and Accountant Sanjib Pandey. These arrests come following serious allegations involving match-fixing and financial fraud, marking a turbulent period for the national football governing body.
According to police reports, 60-year-old Joshi, a resident of Pulchowk, Lalitpur, and 55-year-old Pandey, hailing from Lagankhel, were apprehended to undergo a thorough investigation. The CIB is currently looking into their suspected involvement in manipulating game outcomes and misappropriating funds. This move follows a formal lead related to national sports integrity, highlighting a crackdown on illegal activities within the sports sector.
As the investigation unfolds, the football community and the National Sports Council are closely monitoring the situation. The arrests of such prominent figures within the association’s financial department suggest a deeper probe into the internal operations of ANFA. Authorities have emphasized that the legal process will follow its course to ensure transparency and accountability in Nepalese football.
