The Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) has provided a somber update regarding the scale of the disaster affecting the nation’s energy infrastructure. According to the latest data compiled by the association, a total of 868 individuals remain missing or out of contact across 11 different hydropower projects. This massive disappearance of personnel highlights the severe impact of the recent environmental challenges on the country’s power sector and its dedicated workforce.
Currently, search and rescue efforts are being concentrated on three specific locations: the Chilime, Trishuli-1, and Upper Trishuli 3B projects. In these areas, specialized teams are continuing their operations, battling difficult terrain and debris in hopes of finding the unaccounted workers. These sites remain the focal point of the ongoing emergency response as authorities prioritize the recovery of those still missing from these major installations.
In a difficult turn of events, rescue operations at the remaining project sites have been officially suspended. The decision to halt these efforts comes as search teams face increasing obstacles in other areas, though the situation continues to be monitored closely. IPPAN is working in coordination with project developers and local authorities to gather more information and support the families of the 868 people who have yet to be located.
