Nepal has long been aware of its extreme vulnerability to climate change, given its position in the fragile Himalayan region. For years, the nation has witnessed the retreat of glaciers and increasingly unpredictable monsoon cycles, prompting a series of strategic responses. While the awareness was present, the effectiveness of the subsequent preparations remains a subject of intense debate among experts and policymakers.

To address these challenges, the government has developed comprehensive frameworks like the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and Local Adaptation Plans for Action (LAPA). These initiatives are designed to integrate climate resilience into local development, focusing on agriculture, water management, and disaster risk reduction. Nepal has also been vocal on the international stage, seeking climate finance to manage the rising threat of glacial lake outburst floods and to support community-led conservation efforts.

However, the journey from policy to practice is often fraught with obstacles. Despite robust planning, limited financial resources and technical gaps frequently hinder the implementation of large-scale adaptation projects. As the country aims for net-zero emissions by 2045, the focus continues to shift toward ensuring that the most vulnerable communities are not left behind in an era of rapid environmental transformation.
